Approached by two men who demanded money, 18 year old William Palmer refused and was shot once in the upper chest through the protective glass of the attendants booth in the parking lot where he worked. He was able to make it to the emergency room of the adjacent hospital and was rushed into surgery, but died shortly more than an hour later. A 9mm shell casing was found at the scene, no money was taken. Two men, Len Ellis, 23 and Zarier Thompson 19, were arrested in connection with the slaying.
