9th and Market, July 13, 2005
Patricia McDermott, 48, had just gotten off of the bus at 9th and Market and was walking south on 9th street when a man in a baseball cap walked up behind her and shot her in the head. The entire incident was captured on Homeland Security video cameras set up around the post office. Later, a former co-worker of McDermott's, Juan Covington was arrested. Confronted with the video tape, he confessed to McDermott's murder and two others as well as shooting at least two more people who survived dating back several years.
